Heat hangs around, with storms possible tonight

Hot weather continues today, with a high near 89 predicted in Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

A high in the low to mid-90s is expected this weekend, with heat index values from the mid-90s to around 100, the weather service said.

Strong storms are possible on Saturday throughout the area, with the main threat from gusty to damaging winds, according to the weather service.

Today, expect partly sunny skies, a high of 89 and a light south wind increasing 5 to 10 mph in the morning, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 70 with a south wind of 8 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is expected.

Saturday, the high will be near 93 with mostly sunny skies and a heat index as high as 98, the weather service said. There will be a south wind of 7 to 13 mph.

Saturday night, expect a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., with a low of 72 and a south wind of 10 mph, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there will be a high near 95 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said. A south wind of 8 to 14 mph will gust as high as 20 mph.

Sunday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 73, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 92, the weather service said.

Monday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 70, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 90, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers with a low of 67, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 85, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, with a low of 66, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be partly sunny with a high of 88, the weather service said.
