A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service until 9 p.m. today, July 14.
Dangerously warm temperatures will prevail across the region today as highs climb into the lower to middle 90s, the weather service said.
These temperatures combined with high levels of humidity will result in heat index values rising above 100 degrees this afternoon, according to the weather service. With a predicted high of 95 today, the heat index will be as high as 104, the weather service said.
There is also a chance for showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., according to the weather service.
A 20 percent chance of showers and storms continues during the later night hours and overnight. The low will be 75.
Wednesday’s forecast is a drop in temperatures, to a high near 89, but it will still feel hot, as the heat index could reach 99. There is a 40 percent chance of storms and showers on Wednesday. Large hail and strong winds will be possible with any severe storm activity.
The chance of storms continues Wednesday night.
Stay out of the heat today, drink a lot of water and find an air-conditioned room. The public libraries are air-conditioned, and those who go there are expected to read or use the libraries, not sleep there.
