Heat advisory in effect from noon to 8 p.m. today

After storms this morning, there will be a heat advisory in effect from noon until 8 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service.

Late tonight and again late Thursday night there is a risk for strong to severe thunderstorms across the region, the weather service said. Damaging winds may be the main severe concern.

Through at least Thursday, the high heat and humidity will continue to make people feel miserable. This afternoon’s heat index will be a little better than yesterday, ranging from the mid-90s to 105.

Conditions on Thursday will see heat indices topping out between 102 and 106, the weather ervice said.

Today, after the 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms ends around 11 a.m., there will be a high of 93, with a heat index as high as 105, the weather service said. A south wind will be 8 to 11 mph.

Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 77. A south wind will be 8 to 11 mph.

Thursday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 94, the weather service said. The heat index can reach as high as 105. A south wind of 10 to 15 mph may gust as high as 22 mph.

Thursday night, there is a 30 percent of showers and thunderstorms, with a low around 73, according to the weather service. A south southwest wind of 6 to 11 mph will become west northwest after midnight.

Friday, the high will be near 90 with mostly sunny skies, according to the weather service, with a north wind of 7 mph. Friday night, the low will be 70, the weather service said.

Saturday, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 87.
