Heat advisory continues today

Warm and muggy conditions will persist into Friday and through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

A heat advisory is in effect until 8 p.m. Saturday in Wyandotte County, the weather service said. Temperatures will go from a high of 97 with a heat index of 101 today to a high of 93 and a heat index of 99 on Saturday.

By early next week, a slight reprieve from the heat will be more widespread with heat indices likely topping out in the middle 90s, the weather service said.

Some thunderstorms are possible Friday evening, into the overnight hours, according to the weather service. An isolated strong storm is possible, but widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

Tonight, there will be a low of 76 with a south wind of 5 to 9 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 93, the weather service said. The heat index may reach 99. There will be a south southwest wind of 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 75, according to the weather service. There will be a south wind of 3 to 6 mph, and between a tenth to quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Sunday, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 94 with a south southwest wind of 3 to 8 mph.

Sunday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 74. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Monday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 89, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 71, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, the high will be near 88 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, the low will be around 70 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 89, and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 70, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 87, the weather service said.
