An exciting day of NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice and qualifying, NASCAR Nationwide Series practice and ARCA Racing presented by Menards kicked off Hollywood Casino 400 weekend today at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
Three-time Kansas Speedway winner Jeff Gordon started where he left off in May setting the fastest time in the first Sprint Cup Series practice topping Kevin Harvick, Greg Biffle, Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.
For Harvick, there seems to be something about Kansas that suits him. After finishing second in practice, he earned his third consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Kansas Speedway pole this afternoon.
“Yeah, for whatever reason this fits everything that I have going on with my driving style. Last year we had a fast car and this year we have a fast car as well.”
Brian Vickers will start beside Harvick on the front row and Aric Almirola and Joey Logano will make up the second row.
Carl Edwards qualified 12th, Jamie McMurray qualified 14th and Clint Bowyer will start 19th on Sunday, respectively.
The ARCA Racing Series wrapped up the 2014 season in an action packed 99 laps under the lights at Kansas Speedway.
Spencer Gallagher earned his first career ARCA Racing Series victory, Josh Williams finished second followed by Ross Kenseth, son of two-time Kansas Speedway winner Matt Kenseth, Mason Mitchell and Cody Coughlin.
Points leader Mason Mitchell only had to take the green flag in tonight’s ARCA 98.9 at Kansas Speedway to claim the 2014 ARCA Racing Series Championship.
Tickets for Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 and Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 are still available and can be purchased by calling 866-460-7223 or at the gate each day.
Parking is free at Kansas Speedway and fans can bring in one 14x14x14-inch soft-sided cooler with their favorite food and beverages.
