Harvesters and local grocery stores launch Check-Out Hunger Campaign

The 28th annual Check-Out Hunger campaign to support Harvesters—The Community Food Network is underway at more than 125 grocery stores throughout the region.

The holiday campaign is the largest annual fundraiser for Harvesters, which feeds the hungry through its network of more than 760 nonprofit agencies.

Community members can help this holiday season by scanning $1, $5, $10 or $20 Check-Out Hunger donation coupons for Harvesters and adding them to their grocery bills.

Donation coupons and Harvesters food donation barrels will be in stores through Jan. 5, 2020. Online donations can be made to Check-Out Hunger’s virtual food drive at http://www.harvesters.org/checkouthungervfd.

“As we head into the holiday season, we know there are more than 341,000 people in our service area who may not know where their next meal is coming from,” said Valerie Nicholson-Watson, president and CEO of Harvesters. “Providing food to a family, senior or child through Check-Out Hunger gives them hope today and ultimately, helps build a stronger, healthier community for us all.”

Stores participating in this year’s campaign in Wyandotte County include Hen House, Price Chopper and Sun Fresh. Many other stores also are participating in the Greater Kansas City area and in surrounding communities.
