Once a year, the largest canoe race in the world starts here in Kansas City, Kan., at Kaw Point.

It is called the great canoe race and the Missouri American Water MR 340. The 340-mile race for canoes and kayaks ends in St. Charles, Mo.

More than 200 canoe enthusiasts participated in this annual event Aug. 12. They come from all over the nation. This is the ninth year of the event.

Mayor Mark Holland was there to help start the event. This event attracts spectators from all over the nation.
