Armourdale Recreation Center was the site of the annual St. Patrick’s Day luncheon on Friday, March 13, in Kansas City, Kan.

More than 200 people attended this event. The proceeds from this event helped benefit programs that are offered at the center. All types of food were available at this luncheon, everything from tamales to ribs.

The cost of the event was $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and children under 5 were free. Proceeds of fundraisers went to the recreation center programs. The luncheon was sponsored by the Armourdale Renewal Association.

The master of ceremonies was Bundy Jenkins, whose humor and wit was phenomenal. He even had a Kermit the Frog puppet assisting him, to help sing some Irish songs.

Also, Carol Watson from the First National Bank sang old Irish favorites.

One of the keynote speakers was Kathy Quinn with Fox 4 news. She was also very, very humorous and spoke about her Irish ties. Her husband and his son are involved with the Elders, a world-renowned Irish folk band.

“I met my husband in Ireland when I was 13 years of age and I have been married for 30 years,” Quinn said. “My son and my husband play in a band.”

Also on hand as one of the keynote speakers was Unified Government Commissioner Brian McKiernan, 2nd District.

“We must be open to new ideas and be able to share them with others in our community,” McKiernan said. “By doing this we can grow bigger and better than ever.”

“We must work together and share our ideas and dreams with each other,” McKiernan said.
