Gaming revenues up at Hollywood Casino

Gaming revenues at Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway showed an increase in October, according to the Kansas Lottery Commission.

Gaming revenues for October were about $11.7 million as compared to $11.2 million in September, according to figures announced today by Keith Kocher, director of program assurance and integrity for the Kansas Lottery.

Gaming revenues also were up at the Boot Hill Casino, Dodge City, Kan., $3.28 million; and the Kansas Star Casino, Mulvane, Kan., $15.28 million, according to the report.

Rick Skinner, vice president and general manager of Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway, wrote in a report to the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission that total gaming revenue for October this year was an increase of 2.9 percent over October of last year.

Slots revenue, at $10.1 million, was an increase of 1.7 percent over the previous year, and table games revenue, at $1.7 million, was an increase of 10.9 percent over the previous October, according to his report.

During October, the Hollywood Casino had a promotion on race weekend that included giving away a vehicle. There also was a jackpot hit at $136,000 at the Hollywood Casino on Sunday night after the Sprint Cup race, Skinner wrote.

The Hollywood Casino has planned two Kansas City Chiefs watch parties in November, with Chiefs cheerleaders in attendance. One was held Sunday, Nov. 15, and another will be Sunday, Nov. 22, before the night game with the Chargers. There is a Chiefs tie-in to a Powerball ticket special offer, with a chance for suite tickets to attend a Chiefs game.

In another report, Lottery Deputy Executive Director Sherriene Jones-Sontag said a Super Kansas Cash ticket was drawn Oct. 28 and won $676,000, but the winner had not yet come forward. The ticket was from northeast Kansas, she said.

Overall, sales of lottery tickets in Kansas are ahead of last year’s totals year to date until October, she said. However, Mega Millions and Hot Lotto, as well as some other individual games, are behind the pace currently, she noted. Their sales fluctuate with the amount of the jackpot, she noted.

She said the Holiday Millionaire Raffle was ahead of last year’s pace, and had sold 117,000 tickets so far. There is a special promotion offered for this ticket on Black Friday, Nov. 27.

Lottery Director Terry Presta reported that the Kansas Lottery has been sued. This time it was named as a defendant in a class-action lawsuit from players who were not paid their winning prizes by the state of Illinois. That state decided to defer paying all winning prizes over $600. The Kansas Lottery was named because it is a member of the Multi-State Lottery Association, which is involved in some of the games.
