Furloughed federal workers can receive free bus rides during the federal government shutdown, according to an announcement by RideKC.
Government workers affected by the shutdown need to show their federal government employee identification to board any of the RideKC buses regionwide. The furloughed workers are not being paid during the shutdown.
“It’s not about politics, it’s about people,” said Robbie Makinen, CEO and president of KCATA. “We want to pay it forward and assist those who are hurting by taking a little weight off of their shoulders during this time.”
Fares on all RideKC bus routes serving Kansas City, Johnson County, Wyandotte County and Independence will be free for the federal government workers.
