Four-way tie for largest fish at free kids’ derby today at Wyandotte County Lake

There was a four-way tie for the largest fish today at free kids’ fishing derby at Wyandotte County Lake.

The annual event is sponsored by the Leavenworth Road Association and the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department.

The four names of those who had the largest fish, 1.8 pounds, were put into a drawing, and the winner was Cory Koontz, 12 years old. The others who caught a 1.8-pound fish received trophies in their age groups.

The annual event enjoyed nice weather, with strong breezes, making it necessary to bolt down the canopies.

All trophy presentations today were made by Wyandotte County District Attorney Mark Dupree.

There were no entry fees to enter the kids’ fishing derby, and everyone who registered received a coupon for a free hot dog grilled at the event today.
