Four walks cost T-Bones series opener

The Kansas City T-Bones lost, 5-4, to Central Division rival, Sioux City Explorers in 10 innings Thursday night at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kansas.

John Nogowski, proved why he leads the league in batting early on in the first inning. The first baseman’s RBI single to right field put the Explorers ahead, but only briefly.

The T-Bones’ newest signee, first baseman Kyle Petty, responded to earn his first RBI with Kansas City. Petty’s sacrifice fly to right field to scored shortstop, Marcus Lemon, tying the game up at 1-1 to end the first inning.

Sioux City regained their lead in the fourth thanks to a solo home run from shortstop, Nate Samson. Designated hitter LeVon Washington extended the lead to three by adding a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Nogowski.

Kansas City was unable to score in the following five innings, leaving six runners on base, but the Explorers continued to make plays.

Samson’s RBI single in the seventh put Sioux City up 4-1, before the T-Bones scored three runs to tie the game.

Designated hitter, Kevin Keyes, launched his league leading, twelfth home run of the season to bring in center fielder, Omar Garcia, and Lemon knotting the game up at four going into the eighth.

The game stayed tied at the end of nine and this Central Division battle was taken to the tenth inning.

Kansas City’s right-handed pitcher, Luis Paula, threw four straight walks to give the Explorers a 5-4 lead and the victory.

Paula took the loss, while right-handed pitcher, Todd Eaton tossed the win for the Explorers.

The T-Bones will continue a four game series with the Sioux City Explorers at 7:05 p.m. Friday, June 23, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. It will be Harry Potter night, with hot dogs for $1.25.
