Four persons, including three Basehor, Kan., residents, died in a crash on U.S. 24, about 1 mile west of Perry, Kan., at 3:20 p.m. Sunday, June 19, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
A trooper’s report listed the fatal victims as Ronald D. Heston, 56, Oskaloosa, Kan.; Travis D. Askew, 35, Basehor, Kan.; Ashley A. Askew, 27, Basehor, Kan.; and Haley R. Askew, 6 months old, Basehor, Kan.
According to the trooper’s report, a Ford Ranger pickup driven by Heston was westbound on U.S. 24 when it left the roadway onto the north shoulder and overcorrected. The Ford pickup then traveled across the road and into the eastbound lanes, the trooper’s report stated, hitting a Ford Windstar minivan head-on.
Two of the three children in the minivan survived. They are ages 5 and 3, and were taken to a hospital with injuries, the trooper’s report stated.
