Bank robbery suspects were chased through Kansas City, Kan., this morning, ending in the suspects’ vehicle crashing into three vehicles near 51st and Leavenworth Road, according to a Kansas City, Kan., police spokesman.
One of the suspects was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is currently stable, the police spokesman said.
A passenger in the suspect vehicle was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, and the third person in the vehicle is in police custody, the spokesman said.
The incident started with a bank robbery at 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the UMB Bank at 83rd and Parallel Parkway, police said.
An officer saw a vehicle near 75th and State Avenue that was suspected of being involved in the robbery and pursued that vehicle, the spokesman said. The suspect vehicle struck a truck, car and sport utility vehicle at 51st and Leavenworth Road.
The driver of the car that was struck, and a passenger in it were taken to a hospital with minor injuries, as well as the driver of the SUV, the police spokesman said.
The driver of the truck was not injured, police said.
The crash is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team. The robbery is being investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation with assistance from the criminal investigations division, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
