Former school officer pleads guilty to crimes against teens

Michael Eugene English, a former school resource officer for the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools, has pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated indecent liberties with children between 14 and 16 years old.

He had worked as a school system security guard before becoming a school district employee in 2015, according to officials.

English, who pleaded guilty on Feb. 28, is scheduled to be sentenced May 8, according to the district attorney’s office.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Public Schools on Thursday issued a statement on the case, saying it has adopted policies about employee conduct:

“Today, Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools (KCKPS) was made aware of the guilty plea in Wyandotte County District Court by Michael Eugene English, a former employee of the school district,” a school district spokesman stated.

The district makes every effort to ensure that we maintain the highest standard of professional conduct throughout our school campuses. Our students’ well-being and safety is a top priority.

“Any egregious or inappropriate conduct of an employee will not be tolerated in this school district. KCKPS has adopted policies to provide guidance and direction within the district’s educational environment.

“We appreciate the continued support from our school community.”
