A former basketball standout in the Chicago area is the new assistant women’s basketball assistant at Kansas City Kansas Community College.

Chamissa (Missa) Anderson joins the staff of new KCKCC women’s coach Joe McKinstry, who was named successor to 16-year coach Valerie Stambersky on Monday.

A four-year player at Milford High School in Milford, Mich., Anderson played one year of collegiate basketball at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Mich., before transferring to Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where she set a single game record for rebounds and finished fourth in the conference in rebounding and on the list of the Top 5 rebounders in Ellsworth history.

She finished her collegiate play at Trinity International in Chicago. A two-year starter, she averaged double figures in both scoring and rebounding as a senior. Ranked 24th in total rebounds in NAIA Division II in 2010-11, she had a career scoring high of 25 points. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in sports and wellness management in 2011, she continued at Trinity as graduate assistant coach.

In addition, her coaching experience includes two years as head junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach at Chicagoland Jewish High School, coaching AAU women’s basketball for Full Package Athletics in Chicago and coaching a middle school team for the Niles West feeder program that finished undefeated en route to winning the city championship in 2012.

In charge of preseason workouts, Anderson has been impressed by the enthusiasm of the Blue Devil squad.

“This is a hard working group of young ladies who want to surpass what they did last year and are willing to sacrifice and do whatever it takes to get to that level,” Anderson said. “Needless to say I’m very excited to work with these young athletes and be a part of this program.”
