Flood warning in effect until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday

A flood warning is in effect for Wyandotte County and surrounding counties until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

At 7:34 a.m. Tuesday, rain gauge data has indicated heavy rainfall fell Monday night that will continue to cause flooding in the warning area through at least Tuesday evening.

Kansas City, Kansas, and many cities throughout the metropolitan area may experience flooding.

The weather service warned residents to turn around when they see flooded roads.

According to the weather service, multiple creeks and rivers in the Kansas City area have gone into major flood. Indian Creek in the Kansas City, Mo., and Johnson County, Kansas, area is in flood stage, and multiple water rescues are still going on at this time with many roads closed through the area.

Water levels at some locations have started to crest and flooding conditions should start to improve.

Turkey Creek at Southwest Boulevard was in action stage Tuesday morning, still below flood stage. The Kansas River and the Missouri River in Wyandotte County were not in flood stage, according to charts from NOAA.
