Flood warning in effect for Wyandotte County

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning in effect in Wyandotte County from 12:13 a.m. Aug. 27 through 6:15 a.m. Aug. 27.

Doppler radar and spotter reports indicated heavy rain of 3 to 6 inches that produced widespread flooding across the area during the past four hours, the weather service said.

Flooding will remain a threat through the early morning hours Saturday.

Locations that will experience flooding include Kansas City, Kan., Overland Park, Olathe, Independence, Shawnee, Lenexa, Leawood, Raytown, Liberty, Gladstone, Prairie Village, Gardner, Excelsior Springs, Merriam, Cameron, Mission, Smithville, Kearney, Bonner Springs and DeSoto, the weather service said.

The weather service warned residents to be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. Turn around and don’t attempt to drive through flooded roadways, the weather service said.
