The National Weather Service has issued an urban and small stream flood advisory for Wyandotte County.
At 9:19 p.m. Saturday, law enforcement reported heavy rain causing urban and small stream flooding within the Kansas City area. Up to two and a half inches of rain have already fallen.
The flood advisory is in effect until 6:15 a.m. Sunday.
Kansas City, Kansas, Bonner Springs and surrounding counties may experience flooding, according to the weather service.
The weather service advised special caution at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots, the weather service said.
Residents are asked to report flooding to their local law enforcement agency when they can do so safely.
The Missouri and Kansas rivers were well below flooding levels on Saturday night, according to weather service hydrology charts.
