A flash flood warning has been issued for northwestern Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.
The warning will be from 2:55 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday. Southern Leavenworth County also is under a flash flood warning.
At 2:55 p.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen in some areas, and flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly, the weather service said.
Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Kansas City, Kansas, Fairmount, Piper, Maywood and Wolcott could experience flash flooding, the weather service said. Also on the list are Shawnee, Leavenworth, Lansing, DeSoto, Tonganoxie, Basehor, Linwood and Reno.
Residents are advised to turn around, go another route and not to try to go through water covering a street.
