A flash flood warning was issued for northwestern Wyandotte County and north central Johnson County, according to the National Weather Service.
At 10:23 p.m., trained weather spotters reported flash flooding with water over several roadways across the area. Up to one inch of rain has already fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring, according to the weather service.
Piper, Bonner Springs, Edwardsville, Kansas City, Kansas, and Maywood are among the areas that are experiencing flooding, according to the weather service.
Flood waters also are possible along Turkey Creek.
Residents are advised to turn around and do not attempt to cross flooded roads.
A severe thunderstorm warning has been extended until 11 p.m. in northeastern Wyandotte County.
The area also is under a severe thunderstorm watch until 3 a.m.
