Five injured as vehicle overturns in accident at U.S. 73 and Parallel

An injury-accident was reported at 6 p.m. Sept. 14 at U.S. 73 – K-7 Highway southbound at Parallel Parkway in Kansas City, Kan.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Chevy Cobalt was making a left turn from northbound U.S. 73 to westbound Parallel Parkway. A GMC Envoy was southbound on U.S. 73 in the right lane. The Cobalt disregarded the traffic signal and entered the intersection, the trooper’s report stated.

The Envoy struck the passenger side of the Cobalt, and both vehicles went off the roadway, the trooper’s report stated. The Envoy then overturned.

The driver of the Cobalt, a 61-year-old woman from Basehor, Kan., was injured and taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Envoy, a 39-year-old man from Basehor, Kan., also was injured and taken to a hospital, the report stated. A 37-year-old woman from Basehor in the Envoy also was taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.

Other passengers in the Envoy, a 19-year-old man from Basehor, and a 9-year-old boy from Basehor, also were injured and taken to hospitals, the report stated.
