Five injured after teen crashes into concrete barrier on I-35

Five persons were injured after a Volkwagen Passat at a high rate of speed on I-35 crashed into a concrete barrier on Sunday, Sept. 27.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, the accident happened about 7:23 p.m. Sept. 27 on I-35 northbound, just north of Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, Kan.

The Passat was northbound on I-35 at a high rate of speed, lost control and struck inside concrete barrier, the trooper’s report stated. The Passat then bounced off the inside barrier and struck the outside guardrail, according to the trooper’s report. After that, the vehicle came back across the lanes, striking a Saturn Vue, then hit the inside concrete barrier again, the trooper’s report stated.

Four of the injured persons were teens. The driver of the Passat was an 18-year-old man from Kansas, th report stated. He was injured and taken to the hospital, the report stated.

Also injured and taken to the hospital were a 35-year-old male passenger from Kansas; a 16-year-old male from Kansas; a 13-year-old male from Kansas; and a 16-year-old male from Kansas. The trooper’s report did not list the cities of residence of the driver and passengers.

The driver of the Saturn Vue, a 28-year-old woman from Riverside, Iowa, was not injured, according to the report.
