Fireworks recall issued

The Contraband 24 canister shell fireworks kit has been recalled because of impact and burn hazards.

According to an announcement from the importer, Winco, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission, this shell can blow up in the tube during firing, posing impact and burn hazards to the user and bystanders.

About 4,500 kits are being recalled by Winco company. The firework has model number JP-933 printed on the left front of the box above a warning.

The firm has received two reports of the firing tubes being too narrow, including one report of a shell blowing up in a tube and causing minor burns and cuts to the legs of a store employee.

The fireworks were sold at Pyro City and other fireworks retailers from February to June of this year for about $80. The importer is Winco Fireworks International LLC, Prairie Village, Kan. The fireworks are manufactured in China.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fireworks kits and return them to the place of purchase to receive a full refund, according to the announcement.
