Fire reported in high-rise apartments on Central Avenue

A fire was reported at a high-rise apartment building at 1131 Central Avenue around 2 p.m. Sunday, according to fire officials.

Responding to the alarm, firefighters found smoke in the building, and they evacuated people in the apartment building, according to a social media message by the fire chief.

Later, they found the source of the smoke – a trash chute, according to the chief’s message. The fire was extinguished, and there is an investigation ongoing, officials stated.
