A fire was reported about 11:15 a.m. Jan. 30 at a UPS distribution facility at 223 N. James St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The fire was found under a conveyor belt, where materials caught fire, according to Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department spokesman James “Morris” Letcher, assistant chief.

He said it isn’t yet known how extensive the fire was, but the fire had been contained to one area of the building.

The two-alarm fire was brought under control in about a half-hour. The second alarm was called as a precautionary measure, because of the size of the building, when firefighters were not yet aware of the size of the fire, he said.

Employees were evacuated, he said, and they should be able to continue working today. There were no injuries to workers or to firefighters, he said.

It is unknown yet if any packages in the warehouse were damaged, he added.
