Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department crews and Hazmat team dealt with a gas leak this morning at 749 Central Ave.

According to a spokesman for the Fire Department, the crews were dispatched at 11:28 a.m. Friday after a truck driver hit two gas meters in front of businesses, stopping on one of the meters.

When they arrived, crews found an active gas leak from both meters, the spokesman stated.

The first gas meter was plugged and the leak stopped. The second gas meter could not immediately be shut off because the truck was resting on top of it, according to the spokesman.

Power was shut off to the buildings, and the buildings were evacuated by Hazmat crews, the spokesman stated.

A wrecker with a boom was brought in to lift the truck off the meter, to reduce the chance of sparking, the spokesman stated.

The truck was successfully removed, and the gas meter was shut off by the gas company, according to the spokesman.

There were no injuries from the incident.
