A man suffered fatal injuries in a crash while eluding Bonner Springs police overnight, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.
The crash was about 12:57 a.m. Jan. 20 at Loring Lane and Stillwell Road in Bonner Springs, according to the trooper’s report.
Juan Carlos Marquez, 22, of Lawrence, Kansas, suffered a fatal injury, the trooper’s report stated.
Marquez was in a Pontiac G8 eastbound on Loring Lane at a high rate of speed, according to the trooper’s report. He was eluding Bonner Springs police.
Marquez lost control and the G8 went into a spin striking a speed limit sign, the trooper’s report stated. After impact, the vehicle continued in a backward direction and struck a tree, the report stated.
Marquez was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday. He was not wearing a safety restraint, the trooper’s report stated.
An 18-year-old Bonner Springs woman who was a passenger in the G8 suffered a possible serious injury, according to the trooper’s report. She was taken to a hospital. The passenger had not been wearing a safety restraint, the report stated.
