A woman in her early 70s died after a crash at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 15, at 89th and Parallel Parkway, according to a Kansas City, Kan., Police Department spokesman.
Two sport utility vehicles were involved in the crash, according to the spokesman.
Police said a man in the striking vehicle had fled eastbound on foot from the accident scene.
The man was located about a block away and was taken to a hospital and treated for his injuries, police said.
Officers said a tan sport utility vehicle was stopped, westbound on Parallel, waiting to turn into Providence Medical Center.
The second vehicle, a black SUV, also was westbound and rear-ended the stopped car, the police spokesman said.
Two females and one male were in the vehicle, police said. The woman who died later from her injuries was in the back seat of the SUV. The two others in the SUV had minor injuries, police said.
The identity of the woman who died will be released after positive identification and family notification, according to the spokesman.
The Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s Traffic Support Unit-Critical Collision Response Team is investigating the crash.
