Christ the King Catholic Church will hold an ice cream social on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the church grounds, 53rd and Leavenworth Road. Mass will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, followed by the social. The benefit event will include food, games and entertainment. The church is planning a Community Blood Center blood drive from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 14 at the church basement.

A weekly Scripture Group with Bible Sharing and Reflection, Lectio and Journaling, is offered from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wednesdays at Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Our Lady of Unity parish will hold its fifth annual OLU Unity Fest from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sept. 12 at Sacred Heart field, 2646 S. 34th St., Kansas City, Kan. All-day fun and family entertainment are planned. Live music will include spiritual-folk, oldies, bluegrass, Spanish and rock. Carnival games, inflatables, talent contest, variety musical groups, American and Mexican-style food and drinks will be available. There will be a silent auction with more than 120 items. Risen Lamb International Church of the Nazarene, located in the Turner area of Kansas City, Kan., has announced the opening of the Risen Lamb Prayer Room and Retreat Center. On location at their church at 5301 Metropolitan Avenue, the prayer room and retreat center is open to the public for daytime retreats. All individuals or small groups seeking a quiet, sacred space to gather, pray, meditate, journal or read resources about prayer are welcome. The prayer room provides a peaceful space for solitude or can be scheduled in advance for groups of up to eight people. Guests seeking spiritual guidance may schedule a time of spiritual direction with one of the pastoral staff, and groups may inquire about scheduling a member of the pastoral team to lead or speak at a retreat. Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kan., will have a booth at the Hispanic Heritage-Labor Day Festival from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, at 18th Street and Minnesota Avenue. A parade is planned down Minnesota Avenue starting at 11 a.m. at Fourth Street. The parish will observe the 15th Sunday in Pentecost Sunday, Sept. 6. Services in English will be at 10 a.m. and in Spanish at 7 p.m.
