Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2203 Parallel Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, will sponsor a Knights of Columbus Octoberfest Breakfast Fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 21, following the 8 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Masses. There will be scrambled eggs with chorizo, fried potatoes, refried beans, tortillas, fruit cocktail, coffee and punch. The cost of the breakfast will be $6 for adults and $4 for children under 10.

Metro Lutheran Ministry will hold the “Power of Each One” fundraising event at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, in the Overland Park Convention Center, 6000 College Blvd., Overland Park. The fundraiser will support the MLM food pantries, permanent supportive housing, minor home repair, employment support services and the MLM Christmas Store. Volunteers are needed for Samaritan’s Purse’s project, Operation Christmas Child. In this program, led by the Rev. Franklin Graham, volunteers fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items. The shoeboxes are given to needy children. Operation Christmas Child has delivered more than 157 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries since 1993. This year, the local Kansas City, Kansas West Area Team hopes to collect 15,782 shoebox gifts to contribute to the 2018 global goal of reaching more than 11 million children in need. Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, attended the annual convention of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas Friday, Oct. 19 and Saturday, Oct. 20, at Grace Cathedral, Topeka. Delegates elected the tenth bishop of the Diocese of Kansas, the Rev. Cathleen Chittenden Bascom. She comes from Forest City, Iowa, where she was an assistant professor at Waldorf University. She will be the first woman to be bishop of the Diocese of Kansas. The Most Rev. Michael Curry, the presiding bishop of the national Episcopal Church, will come to Topeka Saturday, March 2, for the ordination and consecration of the new bishop.
