Holy Family Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, will hold its 10th annual Slovenefest on Sept. 22 at the school grounds and at Monsignor Mejak Hall, 513 Ohio, Kansas City, Kansas. The event begins after the 4 p.m. Mass at the church. Hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Activities include music, a Slovenian dinner, food and entertainment, with booths, a silent auction and music by Hrvatski Obicaj and the Brian McCarty Band. The money raised will support Holy Family Catholic Church.

The eighth annual Unity Fest, a fundraiser for Our Lady of Unity parish, Sacred Heart and St. John the Evangelist Catholic churches, will take place from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Sacred Heart field, 2646 S. 34th St., Kansas City, Kansas. The family event will include a kids area with carnival games, crafts and inflatables. All-day entertainment will include different musical groups, Mariachi groups and Folkloric dance groups. Traditional American and Mexican-style food will be available. Also available will be barbecue and drinks. A silent auction will be held in the church hall, and a mini-soccer tournament is planned for all age groups.
Volunteers are needed for Samaritan’s Purse’s project,Operation Christmas Child. In this program, led by the Rev. Franklin Graham, volunteers fill shoeboxes with toys, school supplies and hygiene items. The shoeboxes are given to needy children. Operation Christmas Child has delivered more than 157 million gift-filled shoeboxes to children in more than 160 countries since 1993. This year, the local Kansas City, Kansas West Area Team hopes to collect 15,782 shoebox gifts to contribute to the 2018 global goal of reaching more than 11 million children in need. St. Patrick Catholic parish, 1086 N. 94th St., is sponsoring an ice cream social at 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22. The social starts at 5 p.m. and is open to the public. There will be a Mexican dinner, Burmese Chin dinner, burgers, hot dogs, bingo, children’s games, music and other activities.
