Residents are advised to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check up on neighbors and relatives. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances, according to the weather service.

The area will start seeing some relief from the heat on the weekend, as temperatures reach a high near 88 on Saturday.
Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 94 and heat index values as high as 103, the weather service said. A light and variable wind will become east southeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon.
