Eastbound I-70 to be closed over the Kansas River on Sept. 9

Beginning Monday, Sept. 9, the Kansas Department of Transportation will be performing bridge inspections on the eastbound I-70 portion of the Lewis and Clark Viaduct, according to a KDOT spokesman.

Traffic control measures will be installed at different locations throughout the week to allow for KDOT crews to place specialized under-bridge access equipment to perform up-close inspections, the spokesman stated.


On Sept. 9:
• Eastbound I-70 over the Kansas River will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Through traffic should use I-670 to enter Missouri. All eastbound I-70 traffic will exit at Exit 423 B/James Street.

On Sept. 10:
• Eastbound I-70 will be closed from 9 a.m. to noon. Through traffic should use I-670 to enter Missouri. All eastbound I-70 traffic will exit at Exit 423 B/James Street.
• Fairfax Trafficway to eastbound I-70 will be closed from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
• Left lane of eastbound I-70 over the Kansas River will be closed from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.

On Sept. 11:
• Fairfax Trafficway to eastbound I-70 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
• Left lane of eastbound I-70 over the Kansas River will be closed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

On Sept. 12:
• Partial lane closure of ramp from Washington Boulevard to eastbound I-70 (under the bridge) from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
• Alternating lane closures of North 3rd Street (under the bridge) from noon to 5 p.m.

On Sept. 13:
• Fairfax Trafficway, Washington Boulevard, and Minnesota Avenue/North 4th Street ramps to eastbound I-70 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
• Alternating lane closures of North 3rd Street/Armstrong Avenue (under the bridge) from noon to 5 p.m.

Motorists should plan ahead and allow for extra time, the spokesman stated.
