Eastbound I-70 over the 46th Street bridge in Kansas City, Kan., is being reduced to one open lane today, June 17, between 9:30 a.m. and noon for emergency bridge repair work.
A semi struck the bridge overnight, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. Kansas Turnpike Authority crews are expected to complete the needed emergency repairs on the damaged bridge this morning.
KDOT is currently completing a repair project on bridges in this area and eastbound I-70 is already reduced to two open lanes only over the bridge.
Traffic will be directed through the project work zone via signage and cones, a KDOT spokesman said. Drivers should expect delays during peak commute times and may wish to use alternate routes if possible.
Updated daily traffic information for this bridge repair project and for the entire Kansas City metro area can be viewed online at: www.ksdot.org/kcmetro/laneclose.asp.
The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and slow down when approaching and driving through the project work zone.
