Early voting ends at noon Monday, Aug. 6, for the primary election in Wyandotte County.
There are three early voting sites, the Election Office at 850 State Ave., the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department South Patrol station at 2100 Metropolitan Ave., and the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd St.
The three sites will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Monday, Aug. 6.
The primary election is a party election, where voters who are registered to a party will have the opportunity to vote on that party’s candidates. Those who are unaffiliated will have an opportunity to declare a party at the time they vote.
Some of the contested races in the primary include the governor’s contest, the U.S. House, 3rd District, race and a contest for Wyandotte County District Court judge.
There is one nonpartisan question on the primary ballot this year – the three-eighths-cent sales tax in Kansas City, Kansas. That question will be on every ballot, and there will be a special ballot with that question only for those who are unaffiliated voters and don’t want to declare a party, or registered Libertarians.
The sales tax renewal will go toward public safety, including police, fire and infrastructure needs such as roads and sidewalks. The Unified Government’s leaders have said that since it is a renewal of an existing tax that residents are already paying, it will not cause residents’ tax bills to increase.
The three-eighths cent sales tax renewal is only for Kansas City, Kansas, voters, and it will be on the back of most of the paper ballots.
Mail ballots
Ballots that are being returned by mail need to be postmarked by 7 p.m. Aug. 7. If someone hand-delivers a mail ballot to the Election Office at 850 State Ave., it needs to be in their office by 7 p.m. Aug. 7.
