Dry weather today, storms possible Thursday

After a dry day with a high near 78 on Wednesday, there will be a possibility of storms early Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms beginning around 4 a.m. Thursday are capable of producing heavy rain and may continue through the Labor Day weekend, the weather service said.

From 1 to 3 inches of rain are possible through the weekend, with a chance for 4 to 6 inches of rain in some areas of the region, according to the weather service. This could lead to flash flooding and river flooding, the weather service said.

Today, it will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny with a high near 78 and a north northeast wind of 6 to 9 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 63 with an east wind of 5 to 7 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Thursday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near83 with a southeast wind of 6 to 9 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Thursday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 72 with a south southeast wind of 8 to 10 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Friday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 89 with a south southeast wind of 9 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is expected.

Friday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be 74.

Saturday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 87, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 71, according to the weather service.

Sunday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 72, the weather service said.

Monday, Labor Day, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 87, the weather service said.
