A discussion about local trash collection is scheduled at the 5 p.m. Monday, April 23, Unified Government Public Works and Safety Committee meeting, to be held in the fifth floor conference room at City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.
The UG Public Works Department is scheduled to present a trash and recycling pilot program at the meeting.
According to the meeting agenda, the proposed pilot program would be tried for six months in three neighborhoods, Strawberry Hill, North Ridge in Piper Estates, and Highland Crest. It would be an automated cart system.
Those in the test areas would receive two large carts. Trash service would be weekly. Unlimited recycling would be every two weeks.
There would be a limit on trash, including yard waste, during the pilot program. The carts would be 95-gallon size. Residents would be able to purchase stickers for additional trash over the limit.
More information will be presented at the 5 p.m. meeting. The UG committee meetings usually include a public comment time.
Also on the public works meeting agenda is a discussion on the transportation management guide.
Another committee meeting will follow the public works meeting.
On the agenda for the UG Administration and Human Services Committee meeting are scheduling an April 26 public hearing to amend the 2017-2021 five-year consolidated plan to include Neighborhood Revitalization Strategy Area plan; and a request to work with the Historic Northeast Midtown Association to form a committee to start a Groundwork Trust organization.
