Kansas City Kansas Community College is celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace 2015 with three guest speakers from the Department of Justice.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom; Ron Miller, U.S. marshal, and Rita Valenciano, community conciliation specialist with the Department of Justice, will be speaking at 9 a.m. Sept. 21 in Room 2325 on the KCKCC main campus, 7250 State Ave. The event is open to the public.
Founded in 1981 by the U.N. General Assembly, the goal of the International Day of Peace is to cease hostilities and commemorate the day through public awareness and education. Also known as World Peace Day, the day encourages peace throughout the world and peace education, which the U.N. believes is the key to reducing war.
The theme for this year’s United Nations’ International Day of Peace is “Partnerships for Peace –Dignity for All,” highlighting the importance of working together to create peace. During the KCKCC event, organizers will be looking at peace and justice within the United States, and the Department of Justice representatives will be discussing conciliation, enforcement and protection in relationship to peace and justice.
