Guest speakers at the Wyandotte County Third Saturday Democratic Breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 20, will be Democratic candidates for state representative.
Scheduled to speak are Melissa Oropeza, Lynn Smith Melton, Bill Hutton and Marvin Robinson II, who recently won primary contests.
The event is at Las Islas VIP Sports Bar and Grill, 4929 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The program begins at 9 a.m., and those attending may begin to arrive around 8:15 a.m.
The event is open to Democrats.
Also scheduled to be discussed is the recent “no” vote on the proposed Kansas constitutional amendment that would have allowed the Kansas Legislature to ban access to abortion. The amendment failed in Wyandotte County with a vote of 23,867 against, or 74.3 percent, to 8,275 for, or 25.7 percent. Statewide, the vote was 41 percent for and 59 percent against.
The cost of the breakfast is $10, or $7 for those on limited income and students. A sponsor will pay the cost of a student attending for the first time.
