Kansas Minority Leader Tom Burroughs, D-33rd Dist., on Tuesday said the state is in crisis and the future is at risk.
In a statement Tuesday, Burroughs said:
“For months, Democrats have called on Gov. Brownback and his Republican allies in the Kansas Legislature to end the economic experiment. The revenue numbers released today reveal the true damage of their fiscal mismanagement.
“The state of Kansas is in crisis,” Burroughs continued. “Our schools, our infrastructure, our safety, the very future of our state is at stake. It is time for Kansans to stand up and demand the Republican majority change course and fix the mess they’ve created.”
Senate Democratic Leader Anthony Hensley issued this statement about the February revenue numbers:
“Today’s numbers are further evidence that Sam Brownback’s continued mismanagement of our state finances will force the shutdown of our schools next fall – a disaster that he and his legislative allies will be solely responsible for,” Sen. Hensley said in the statement.
“If Sam Brownback’s handling of our state’s budget were brought before a court of law, he would be found guilty of gross negligence. And in the most important venue, the court of public opinion, he will be found the worst governor in Kansas history.”
