A death after a traffic stop is under investigation, according to a Kansas City, Kan., police spokesman.
Police officers stopped a car for a traffic violation about 6:10 a.m. May 22 in the 500 block of Stewart Avenue.
The man, an adult, was wanted on criminal charges, a spokesman said. During the traffic stop, the man attempted to flee and resisted officers’ attempts to take him into custody, the police spokesman said.
After a brief struggle, officers saw that he needed medical attention and rendered aid, while calling for emergency medical personnel to respond, according to the spokesman.
The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, the spokesman said.
The identity of the man is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification. The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department’s major case unit.
