The Kansas City, Kan., Rotary Club recently purchased 1,000 daffodil bulbs that were planted during September and October throughout Wyandotte County.
The community-wide beautification project plantings involved Rotarians, neighborhood volunteers, middle school and high school youth, community organizations, and the Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department, according to a Rotary spokesman.
Plantings were in locations that were visible to the community, in designated public rights-of-way, parks or school grounds, where the flowers will not be likely mowed during the year.
Groups participating included West Middle School, Northwest Middle School, Argentine Middle School, Harmon High School, Schlagle High School, Wyandotte High School, Sumner Academy, Community Housing of Wyandotte County, Accessible Arts, Livable Neighborhoods, Leavenworth Road Association, and Unified Government Parks and Recreation Department.
