COVID-19 case rates updated

Wyandotte County reported an increase of 35 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, for a cumulative total of 10,929, according to the Unified Government COVID-19 webpage.

There were no additional deaths reported Sunday, for a total of 178.


The Greater Kansas City Region, which includes a nine-county area, reported a seven-day average of 703 additional daily cases on Sunday, according to the Mid-America Regional Council’s Kansas City Region COVID-19 Resource Hub. Most of the indicators were trending down.

The rate of new cases is declining slightly, according to the resource hub. The cumulative number of cases in the nine-county area was 87,687.

The COVID-19 deaths had no change Sunday, for a total of 1,073. The seven-day average of deaths per day was 5.

The daily average of new COVID-19 hospitalizations was 150 in the nine-county area. The weekly average of new COVID-19 hospitalizations in the nine-county area was 901.

The average daily number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital is 686 in the nine-county area. The number of those on ventilators is 106, which is little change from the previous day, according to the KC egion COVID-19 data page. There was an average daily number of 184 patients in the intensive care units in the nine-county area.

The Johns Hopkins COVID-19 Dashboard reported a total of 13,382,681 COVID-19 cases in the United States on Sunday. There were a cumulative 266,847 deaths.

Outbreaks

Outbreaks listed on the UG COVID-19 webpage, updated on Wednesday, included:

• Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office, 710 N. 7th St., 36 total cases including 22 primary cases and 14 secondary cases, last known case reported Oct. 16.

• Ignite Medical Resort, long-term care facility, 3910 Rainbow Blvd., 7 cases, last-known case reported Nov. 16.

• Tyson, Speaker Road, 4612 Speaker Road, 39 cases, last-known case reported Nov.18.

• The Piper Assisted Living, long-term care facility, 2300 N. 113th Terrace, 76 cases, 16 deaths, last-known case reported Oct. 20,

• Delta Innovations, 4141 Fairbanks Ave., 7 cases, last-known case reported Nov. 13.

• Amsted Rail Co., 7111 Griffin Road, 6 cases, last-known case reported Oct. 30.

According to the UG website, those with primary cases work or attend the outbreak location and likely contracted COVID-19 through interactions at the outbreak location. Secondary cases are people who contracted COVID-19 from the primary case and did not have another likely source of illness, such as a child attending school virtually at home or an elderly parent who lives with the primary case, according to the UG webpage.

Free COVID-19 testing available Monday

Free COVID-19 testing will be available from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 9301 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas.

The pop-up test is through Vibrant Health and the Wyandotte County Health Equity Task Force.

The Unified Government Health Department has moved its COVID-19 testing from the 6th and Ann location to the former Kmart at 78th and State Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas. The hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Tests are free for those who live or work in Wyandotte County. The tests are now saliva COVID-19 tests.

The tests now are open to asymptomatic people as well as those who have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19. Check with the UG Health Department’s Facebook page to see if there have been any changes in the schedule. Bring something that shows that you live or work in Wyandotte County, such as a utility bill.
