The Wyandotte County coroner today has confirmed that the remains found in the Wolcott area on April 6 are human, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kan., Police Department.

About 10:37 a.m. April 6, police officers received a call about human remains found near 5600 Wolcott Drive. The caller, a mushroom hunter, located the skeletal remains of a skull along with other bones, the police spokesman said.

Police said they believe the subject is a male, 20 to 30 years old, around 6 feet tall and has probably been missing for about a year.

He was wearing a “puka shell” necklace with a shark tooth, police said.

The Criminal Investigations Division is asking the public to help in identifying the person.

Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
