Cooler weather today before rain chances tonight

The weather will turn a little cooler today in advance of a possible storm tonight and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Off-and-on storm chances begin early Wednesday morning and will continue through Friday night, the weather service said.

Most storm chances will occur at night or early morning, according to the weather service. Severe weather is not anticipated with these storms, but heavy rain is possible, the weather service said.

The rivers in Wyandotte County are currently below flood stage, according to hydrology charts. The Missouri River at Parkville, where the gauge is on I-435 over the Missouri River between Platte and Wyandotte counties, is currently below flood stage and in action stage. The Kansas River at 23rd Street, where the gauge is at Kansas Avenue and the state line, is below flood stage and below action stage.

Today temperatures will rise to a high near 84, with increasing clouds and a northeast wind of 6 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 66 with an east wind of 6 mph.

Wednesday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with a high near 84, the weather service said. There will be a southeast wind of 6 to 11 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is in the forecast.

Wednesday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., with a low of 69 and a southeast wind of 3 to 6 mph, according to the weather service. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Thursday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high of 87, the weather service said, and a south southeast wind of 3 to 6 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Thursday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., with a low of 70, according to the weather service. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain are possible.

Friday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 82.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high near 83, the weather service said.
