Cool, windy ‘fire weather’ today

Cool and windy weather is ahead today for Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service.

It’s fire weather, according to the weather service, as winds on Tuesday could gust up to 40 mph out of the northwest, and relative humidity could drop to around 35 percent in some areas. In Wyandotte County, the relative humidity will drop to about 39 percent at 4 p.m. Tuesday, according to a weather service chart. It is not a good day for an outdoors fire.

Dry and windy conditions may allow rapid fire spread should a fire ignite, the weather service said.

Also, residents should prepare for low temperatures on Saturday and Sunday in the 25 to 30-degree range, according to the weather service. In Wyandotte County, the low on Friday night may be 30, and the low on Saturday night may be 31 degrees. Any crops should be protected from the freeze.

Today, skies will be sunny with a high near 55, the weather service said. A northwest wind of 7 to 12 mph will increase to 16 to 21 mph in the morning, gusting as high as 37 mph.

Tonight, skies will be clear with a low of 39, according to the weather service. A northwest wind of 7 to 10 mph will become west southwest after midnight, and winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Wednesday, it will be sunny with a high near 69 and a west wind of 7 to 10 mph, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be clear with a low of 49 and a south wind of 5 to 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, skies will be sunny with a high near 69 and a south wind of 7 to 11 mph, becoming northwest in the afternoon.

Thursday night, a cold front moves in as the low will be around 36 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Friday, the high will be near 45 with mostly sunny skies, the weather service said.

Friday night, the low will be around 30 with partly cloudy skies, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny with a high of 49, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear with a low of 31, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny with a high of 55, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 38, according to the weather service.
