Cool, wet start to Friday’s weather

Temperatures were 56 degrees at 8 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12, in Wyandotte County.

The forecast calls for a 40 percent chance of showers between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Today’s high will be near 58.

Winds will be 9 to 13 mph, according to the weather service.

Tonight’s low will be 39 degrees, the weather service said.

On Saturday, expect sunny skies and a high of 65. Sunday, the high will be 73 with mostly sunny skies.

Showers are back in the forecast for Sunday night, with a 40 percent chance of rain.

While minor flooding is being reported on Friday in Platte City, St. Joseph and Napoleon, Mo., and Leavenworth is near flood stage, the Missouri and Kansas rivers in Kansas City are well under the flood stage today, according to weather service charts.

The Missouri River at Kansas City was 23 feet this morning, and 32 feet is the flood stage.

The Kansas River at 23rd Street in Kansas City, Kan., was at 24 feet this morning, with flood stage at 33 feet.
