More than 450 people attended a benefit breakfast Friday morning at the Wyandotte County Courthouse for Deputy Scott Wood.

Deputy Wood was brutally attacked and shot multiple times Wednesday, March 4, at a convenience store near 44th and Shawnee Drive in Kansas City, Kan.

The food for today’s breakfast was donated and the proceeds from the benefit will go to Deputy Wood’s family, according to officials. About $6,500 was raised today for their expenses, officials said.

People from around the community, including Mayor Mark Holland, attended the event.

Mayor Holland said this was truly a tragedy within the community, and the investigation into it is ongoing. He said the Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are doing their best.
