Eagle Days planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake
The 15th annual Eagle Days event is planned Jan. 23-24 at Wyandotte County Lake. The event will be held at two locations, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 24, at the Mr. and Mrs. F.L. Schlagle Library at the lake; and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, at Davis Hall at the lake. Birds of prey presentations will be held at both locations. Those presentations are at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Operation Wildlife will have live birds of prey on exhibit, including owls, hawks, falcons and eagles, and will give presentations that talk about the birds and their natural history. There will be crafts for kids, and eagle and waterfowl viewing over the lake. The event is free and open to the public.

Child-adult relationship enrichment program offered
The Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., will offer Child-Adult Relationship Enrichment (C.A.R.E.) in three parts, beginning Jan. 25. The program is offered on three Mondays from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. from Jan. 25 to Feb. 8. It is presented by Michelle Bertuglia-Haley, MSW, LSCSW, LCSW, Child and Family Therapy Team of Children’s Mercy. Certificates of attendance will be given out at the end of three sessions. Program offered on raising safe kids

The Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., will offer “ACT Raising Safe Kids Program” from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 11-March 21. The program continues for 10 Mondays. Gospel nonviolence study group to meet Jan. 25
A “Gospel Non-Violence” study group will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, and from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. Program on sleep to be Jan. 26

Chili cookoff planned Jan. 26
A chili cookoff is planned from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26 at St. John’s Catholic Club, 708 N. 4th St., Kansas City, Kan. Six chefs were invited to compete in this event. There will be light snacks and bowling. The cost is $20. The event is a benefit for Leadership 2000.

Meeting planned on Social Security
Next Chapter Kansas City will hold an informational meeting from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 26 at the West Wyandotte Branch Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kan. UG Commission scheduled to meet Jan. 28
The Unified Government Commission is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kan. Before the 7 p.m. meeting, there will be a special session of the UG at 5 p.m. in the ninth floor conference room at City Hall. It will be a closed session on labor and land acquisition. After the closed session will be an open special session in the fifth floor conference room, Suite 515, about the jail study, Healthy Campus update and the Water Pollution Control rate structure.

NAACP to meet Feb. 2
The Kansas City, Kan., Branch NAACP will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the

Learn ‘The Art of Bonsai’ at Feb. 4 program

“The Art of Bonsai,” a class, will be presented from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Wyandotte County Extension Office, Sunflower Room, 1208 N. 79th St., Kansas City, Kan. Dexter White, Wyandotte County Extension master gardener, will present the program. Bonsai is a Japanese art form using miniature trees to grow in containers. Program offers advice on ‘What to Do When Your Child Is Sick’
A program, “What to Do When Your Child Is Sick,” will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at the Keeler Women’s Center, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan. This program gives useful information for those wanting to care for themselves or another. Materials are easy to understand and help persons make good choices about how to care for everyday aches and pains and how to decide if an illness rises to the level of seeing a doctor or visiting an emergency room. Black History and Scholarship Banquet to be Feb. 6
The 24th annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Reardon Convention Center, 500 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kan. The keynote speaker will be State Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau, D-29th Dist. Sen. Faust-Goudeau was the first black woman to serve in the Kansas Senate. The event begins with a social hour at 5 p.m. Also, there will be an after-dinner dance at 8 p.m. The host of the event will be Cynthia Newsome, KSHB-TV news anchor. There will be live entertainment by KC Jazz and a poetry reading by Larry Guidry. Pre-registration is encouraged. Tickets are $45 per person. Police chief scheduled to speak Feb. 9 at LRA meeting
Kansas City, Kan., Police Chief Terry Zeigler is scheduled to speak at the Feb. 9 meeting of the Leavenworth Road Association. The meeting will start with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. Feb. 9 followed by the program at 7 p.m. at the Eisenhower Recreation Center, 2901 N. 72nd. A chicken casserole will be provided, with those attending bringing side dishes.

Keeler Women’s Center, a ministry of the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, 2220 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., offers individual and couples counseling to women and men who might otherwise not be able to afford counseling.
